Álex de la Iglesia starts shooting his new film, ‘The Bar’.

Director Álex de la Iglesia began shooting his fifteenth film, El Bar, on Monday, February 8. The screenplay is the work of Álex himself together with Jorge Guerricaechevarría, the screenwriter with whom he has co-scripted practically all of his films. Guerricaechevarría’s hands have also produced scripts such as Celda 211, Fin and El niño.
As for the cast, Álex de la Iglesia relies again on Mario Casas for the third time after Las brujas de Zugarramurdi and Mi gran noche. Blanca Suárez will repeat under the orders of the Basque director after her fantastic participation in Mi gran noche, a role that earned her a nomination for best supporting actress in the last edition of the Feroz Awards. The cast also includes regulars such as his muse Terele Pávez, Jaime Ordóñez, Secun de la Rosa and Carmen Machi. The cast is completed by Joaquín Climent, Alejandro Awada, Jordi Aguilar, Diego Braguinsky and Mamen García.

The shooting of El bar takes place in locations in and around Madrid and is produced by Pokeepsie Films, Álex de la Iglesia and Carolina Bang’s production company, and Nadie es Perfecto, the production company with which De la Iglesia has produced Musarañas and Los héroes del mal, his last two works as producer.
Like any self-respecting major Spanish film, it has the collaboration of a TV company, in this case Atresmedia Cine. Distribution in Spain is handled by Sony Pictures. It is striking that Enrique Cerezo, with whom he has made Las brujas de Zugarramurdi and Mi gran noche, is not a producer.
